What is a Bezel Setting?

A bezel setting is a classic and secure way to hold a gemstone in place. It involves a thin metal rim that encircles the stone, essentially wrapping around its edges to keep it snug without the need for prongs. This style not only protects the gem from damage but also gives a sleek, modern look that's perfect for everyday wear.

Bezels are often used in rings, pendants, bracelets, and earrings, and they can be full (completely surrounding the stone) or partial (leaving some sides exposed for more light).

Understanding Pavé

Pronounced “pah-vay,” pavé comes from the French word for “paved”, and that’s exactly what it looks like. Tiny diamonds or gemstones are set closely together across the metal surface, creating a seamless layer of sparkle.

The stones are held in place by delicate prongs or beads that are barely visible, so all you really see is shine. Pavé is often used on bands, halos, or along the front of earrings to add that extra glow. It’s a detailed, craftsmanship heavy technique, but the result is worth it: nonstop sparkle.

You’ll see pavé throughout many of our designs, from rings to huggies and everything in between. ✨

What is a Prong Setting?

A true classic. In a prong setting, small metal claws hold the gemstone just above the band, allowing light to hit the stone from every angle. The result? Maximum sparkle and brilliance. It’s the setting most people picture when they think of a solitaire engagement ring, but it’s just as stunning in earrings and pendants where the stone deserves to be the star.

Comparing Popular Cuts

Baguette

A long, rectangular cut with step facets that create clean lines and a subtle, mirror-like shine.

MARQUISE

A pointed oval shape, similar to a football, that creates an elongated, dramatic look while maximizing sparkle.

OVAL

Elongated round shape; flattering on fingers. Great for rings, earrings or pendants; creates illusion of length.

PEAR

Teardrop shape; combines marquise and oval. Great for rings, pendants, drop earrings; asymmetrical appeal.

ROUND BRILLIANT

Circular with 57-58 facets for maximum sparkle. Classic engagement rings; versatile and timeless.

CUSHION

Square with rounded corners; soft, romantic vibe. Good for halo settings; blends vintage and modern.

EMERALD

Rectangular with step-cut facets; elegant and clear. Vintage-inspired pieces; emphasizes clarity.

PRINCESS

Square or rectangular with pointed corners; brilliant facets. Modern, edgy looks; great with dainty bands.

Exploring Jewelry Styles

Styles are the overall look of a piece, how the stones are arranged and what kind of statement the design makes. Some styles spotlight a single standout gem, while others surround it with smaller stones or create a full circle of sparkle.

These styles are what turn individual cuts into pieces that feel personal and wearable. At Sami Jewels, we love mixing different cuts with styles (and settings like bezel or pavé) to create designs that feel effortless for everyday wear but still special enough for meaningful moments. Here are some of our favorite styles. ✨

  • Solitaire

The definition of timeless: a single gemstone as the star of the piece, usually set in prongs or a bezel. With nothing to distract from it, the stone’s cut and sparkle truly shine. Simple, elegant, and effortlessly classic. ✨

  • Eternity

A continuous row of gemstones around the band (full eternity) or across the top (half eternity). Symbolizing endless love, this style typically features small round stones in a clean line, but can also incorporate baguettes or clusters for a more modern look. ✨

  • Halo

A center gemstone surrounded by a circle of smaller stones, creating a “halo” of sparkle. This design enhances the size and brilliance of the center stone and adds a soft, luxurious glow. ✨

  • Cluster

Instead of one large stone, this style groups several smaller gems together to create the look of a bigger, eye-catching piece. The stones are often arranged in patterns, like florals or organic clusters, adding texture, sparkle, and personality.
